• Doha congratulates 2016 candidate cities
  Athens, Wednesday 4 June 2008 – The Chairman of the Doha 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Bid, Hassan Ali Bin Ali has offered his congratulations to Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro on their selection as Candidate Cities.

  Today, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee accepted Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro as Candidate Cities in the race for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Unfortunately, Doha was not accepted as a Candidate City on this occasion.
• Qatar to host FIVB World Club Volleyball Championships
  Doha, 01 June 2008 – The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has announced that Qatar will play host to the FIVB World Club Volleyball Championships in 2009.

• Qatar Tennis Federation welcomes women’s tennis elite in Berlin
  Doha, 07 May 2008 - The world’s top women tennis players will compete in the Qatar Telecom German Open in Berlin hosted by the Qatar Tennis Federation this week. Both the world number one, Justine Henin, and number two Ana Ivanovic will be playing. Henin is aiming for her fourth trophy on the red clay of Berlin.

  Doha, 05 May 2008 – Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell will be looking to break his own world record when he competes in the IAAF Super Grand Prix in Doha next week.

• Doha 2016 delegation supports Qatari athletes at Olympic test event
  Bejing, 11 April 2008 – The Doha 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Applicant Bid Committee delegation voiced their support for the Qatari athletes who will be competing in a test event at the Beijing Shooting Range whilst in Beijing for the 16th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). The Doha 2016 Observer delegation includes Mr Hassan Ali Bin Ali, Chairman of the 2016 Bid Committee and Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al-Thani, Doha 2016 Board Member and Vice President of Education at the Qatar Foundation.
• Qatar to invite 100,000 young people to attend 2016 Olympic Games in Doha
  Doha, 8 April 2008 – The Heir Apparent His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani announced today that, as part of the Doha 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games Plan, 100,000 young people from all around the world will be invited to Qatar as honoured guests to watch the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

  Doha, 7 April 2008 – A delegation from the Doha 2016 Olympic Applicant Bid Committee is currently in Beijing attending the 16th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
• Qatar to receive heavy investment in hotel infrastructure
  Doha, 24 March 2008 – Over the next four years, several hotel conglomerates will invest billions of dollars in a series of hotels and hospitality related developments in Qatar. The Four Seasons, Hyatt, Hilton, Intercontinental and other multinational hotel corporations are constructing new properties in Doha to meet the high demand. According to the Qatar Tourism Authority, a total of 22 new hotels will open by the summer of 2008 alone.
