Doha, 7 May 2008 – The Chairman of the Doha 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Bid, Mr Hassan Ali Bin Ali, today formally inaugurated more than 150 pupils from 80 Qatari schools as Youth Ambassadors.

The youngsters all attended a press conference at the Amna Bint Wahab School in Doha, where Mr Hassan told them: “Our vision of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Doha is focused on our shared future – the world’s youth. Hosting the Games in Doha would bring the flame to the Arabic-speaking world for the first time, extending the Olympic ideals to millions of new hearts and minds”.
“We are looking to you, our Youth Ambassadors, to spread the word about Doha’s Bid and about the Olympic Movement among your friends and classmates and families – and, in doing so, be part of the world’s greatest celebration”.
During the press conference, as part of the Youth Ambassador programme, Mr Hassan also launched a photo contest to be organised by each participating school. Pupils will be invited to submit pictures on the subjects of sport, youth, Olympism, local sporting culture or a combination of these themes. The winning photos will be enlarged and displayed on a building and a prominent billboard in Doha.
In addition to the photo competition, the Youth Ambassador programme will also include competitions in essay writing, music, painting and murals – as well as tours of potential Olympic sports venues. These will take place after the IOC announcement in June of the Candidate Cities.
