DOHA, 18 October 2007 – Four Qatari children will wake up to a rather different morning trip to school from their usual one – for looking down on them all around the city are hundreds of huge images of themselves.

The young sporting heros of the future are playing a starring role on more than 1,000 banners and billboards in Doha as part of an advertising campaign in English and Arabic to raise awareness of the city’s 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Bid.

The banners are also promoting the launch event of the Doha 2016 Bid, which will take place on the Corniche on 25 October.

The children, all of whom take part in multi-sports activities in the Aspire Academy programmes, were earmarked at a young age for their exceptional sporting talent and feature alongside the Qatari international archer Nada Zeidan.

Hassan Ali Bin Ali, the Chairman of the Doha 2016 Bid Committee, said: “These children are our sports stars of the future. If Doha is honoured to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016, it is children like these who will be competing against the rest of the world.”

“It is for children like these that we have built our vision of the Games. Our Bid will be focused on our shared future – the world's youth – particularly those disadvantaged either economically or through disability. It will engage and inspire them so that Arab youth better understand the wider world and the youth of the rest of the world gain a true picture of Arab culture and hospitality.”
