17 September 2007 – The Doha 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Bid Committee today launched a new ‘interim’ website ahead of the city’s official launch of the Bid.

This interim website will be followed by a comprehensive, state-of-the-art website which is currently in development and which will be launched later this year. To access the Doha 2016 interim site, please visit www.doha2016.org.qa

The Doha 2016 interim website provides information about the key elements of the city’s bid, including details about Qatar’s sporting history, culture and technical infrastructure. The site also provides visitors with information about the core members of the Doha Olympic and Paralympic Bid Committee.

Hassan Ali Bin Ali, Chairman of the Doha 2016 Bid Committee, said: “Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Doha would bring the Olympic flame to the Arabic-speaking world for the first time, extending the Olympic ideals to millions of new hearts and minds. Our new website reveals the compelling story of why Doha would be a wonderful Host City for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, together with the details of our exciting and innovative Bid proposals.”

Mr Hassan added: “Our vision for the Games will be focused on our shared future - the world's youth - particularly those disadvantaged either economically or through disability. It will also engage and inspire Arab youth to better understand the wider world and the youth of the rest of the world to gain a true picture of Arab culture and hospitality. Awarding Doha the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games would unleash the power of the Olympic Movement and sport to create understanding, hope and change that could help unite the entire region with the rest of the world.”

The launch of Doha 2016 Bid will be celebrated with an event in September 2007 which will be broadcast live on the interim website and which will unveil the official logo and the key themes of Doha 2016 Bid. All press releases from the Doha 2016 Bid Committee will be available via the interim website’s media centre. The media centre will also store downloadable resources such as fact sheets and biographies.

The full Doha 2016 website will carry a comprehensive range of additional features including an up-to-date media resource centre, a blog from the Doha 2016 Bid Chairman and a section for schools and children.

The host city for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be selected by the International Olympic Committee at the 121st IOC Session in Copenhagen in October 2009.
