Chairman’s blog ‘Celebrating Change’

DOHA - The spectacular launch of the Doha 2016 logo and tagline are highlights of the latest blog entry by the Bid’s Chairman.

In his blog, the first of its kind, the Doha 2016 Bid Chairman, Mr Hassan Ali Bin Ali, also reflects on the meaning of the Bid’s tagline, “Celebrating Change”.

Mr Hassan writes: “Celebrating Change is not just a marketing slogan – it represents the very real desire of the people and government of Qatar to make a difference, to help change people’s lives around the world through peaceful sport, and to celebrate those changes for the good.”

Mr Hassan commented: "The Doha 2016 Bid focuses on the world's youth, so we must communicate with young people in ways that are relevant to them. Doha has an inspiring story to tell, so we must engage with the world's youth to ensure they hear it."

In his first post, however, Mr Hassan admitted “this is definitely unfamiliar territory for me – blogging is not something I have done before.”

However, in the spirit of ‘Celebrating Change’ Mr Hassan said he planned to embrace this exciting new means of communicating the Bid's values – and looked forward to having online discussions with people reacting to what he wrote.

The Doha 2016 website is the first to be highly interactive, featuring forums, blogs and social networking functions such as ‘send to a friend’ and bookmarking.

The forums and blogs will give visitors to the website a chance to talk to members of the bid committee and to each other. The tagging and forwarding functions also make it easy for users to share content with friends.

Visitors can also sign up to receive SMS alerts. The website has a section for younger users which has games and quizzes. Armchair travellers will even get a chance to pay a virtual visit to Doha thanks to locally installed webcams.

The website is available in three languages: English, French and Arabic.
