Doha to host 2010 athletics championship
Doha will host the 2010 world indoor athletics championships, the sport’s governing body announced at a ceremony in Monte Carlo.
The Qatari capital will be the first city in the Middle East to host an athletics world championships.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), at its council meeting, also chose Istanbul to host the 2012 indoor world championships.
The Qatari delegation presented a 20-minute slideshow to illustrate Doha’s facilities and its capabilities, at the end of which IAAF officials praised the Bid for its professionalism.
Lamine Diack, IAAF president, said: “These were clearly two top class candidates demonstrating not only excellent facilities and organisational capabilities but outstanding levels of support from public authorities.”
