Ajitabh Singh, who works for Consolidated Gulf Company, Doha, feels that after the Asian Games, Doha has got the requisite experience and facilities to go ahead with the Olympic and Paralympics Games Bid.

“Doha has great potential to become the hub of games and sports in Asia, as it has got all that is required for hosting such big events – ambition, willpower, money and infrastructure. It has already organised several big sporting events, including the 2006 Asian Games, which were the most successful to date, and the West Asian Games. The excellent organisation of these events has given Qatar more confidence and experience to go for even bigger events like the Olympic Games.”

“I wish and hope that the international community will give Qatar an opportunity to demonstrate to the world that if there is a will there is a way. Long Live Sports and Sportsmanship of Qatar!”

Sanika Sawant, a resident of Doha, believes that Qatar has got one of the best sporting infrastructures in the world.

“In 2016, when the Games are to be held, more facilities will be in place. Already new state-of-the-art stadiums have come up and are coming up which can be used throughout the year for football and other sports.”

“Qatar can expand its health and entertainment sectors to provide the best facilities for the upcoming events. The authorities in the country are very determined and leading from the front to take Qatar to the world sports stage.”

Darshit Kavathia, a sales engineer from Doha, says that the success of the Doha Asian Games has proved beyond doubt that Qatar is capable of organizing big events such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“On the basis of Qatar’s capabilities, even the Asian Olympic Council has already extended its support to Doha for going ahead with the Olympic dream. The sports facilities at the Aspire Zone, can provide world-class infrastructure to athletes and spectators. Doha deserves to become the first city from the Middle East to hold the Olympic Games,” he said.

Harshavardhan, a resident of Doha, highlights the great hospitality of Qataris as a key point of Doha’s bid. He adds that the safety aspect can also play a big role.

“Qatar is a very peace loving and sports loving country. The grandest manner in which Doha hosted the 15th Asian Games was just incredible. As a witness to the most successful Asiad, I can firmly say that Qatar can do much better if it gets to host the Olympic Games in 2016.”

“One more thing about Qatar is that it is a safe and secure place rich in heritage and culture. It's a very hospitable country. Also, Qatar is developing at a rocket speed and is a business hub in the Middle East.”

He added: “Qatar has always been supportive and encouraging of sports and games. People here are sports enthusiasts. The authorities have put in a lot of effort to build world-class facilities, fully equipped with ultra-modern infrastructure.   Truly, Qatar is fully prepared to compete with other cities in the race to win 2016 Olympic Games.”

Muslahuddin Ali Akber, a Marketing Officer at Nokia, also endorsed the view of others, saying that Doha has rich experience as a result of the Asian Games and other world-class events.

“Qatar is already hosting several prominent players from different streams such as football, tennis, golf, shooting, athletics, etc., offering them opportunity to play here and enjoy the warm hospitality extended by the Qatari people.”

“Doha is fully equipped with sports and other facilities to organise big events. All these things certainly hold good for games and sports in the country and the Middle East region. The country has proved its potential by hosting the Asian Games at a grand scale and can do the same if it gets a chance to organise the Olympic Games.”

A technician in Doha, Rajneesh Kumar believes people in Qatar are very hard working and can achieve any task set in front of them.

“We have gained enormous experience from hosting the 2006 Asian Games. Doha is the first city from the Arabic world to bid for the Olympic Games. People in Qatar are greatly looking forward to show their warmth and hospitality once again and become a part of a global sporting community to watch good and fair competition in the spirit of the Olympic Movement.”

“Being a country with full of resources and manpower comprising locals as well as expatriates, Qatar is well-equipped to host the biggest sports event of the world. Its bid for the Olympic Games is justified and it must get the opportunity to hold the 2016 Olympics Games.”

Mohamed Sharaf, an Egyptian national, feels that Qatar has been doing a lot to bring a sports culture to the region.

“Its attempt to host the 2016 Olympic Games must be appreciated by the International Olympic Committee and Doha must be allotted the Games to create more awareness towards sports in the Middle East region,” he said.

Guilvert Cruz, a telecom executive in Doha, says that the Asian Games has boosted the image of Doha and Qatar as a rich and resourceful host among the international community.
