Why Doha 2016?

Sport has always played a pivotal role in the social lives of Qatar's residents. Most of Qatar's sporting venues are open to the public and the country is keen to encourage exercise and a healthy lifestyle, particularly for its younger residents.

The 2007-08 academic year was recently declared the 'School Olympic Year', with a programme of activities jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) designed to nurture sports starts of the future.
