Qatar Olympic Spirit

Olympism is a philosophy of life founded on the education of the body and mind through sport.

It advocates values which are developed during the practice of sport, both by competitive sportspeople of all levels and recreational athletes.

Sport has always played a pivotal role in the social lives of Qatar's residents. Most of Qatar's sporting venues are open to the public and the country is keen to encourage exercise and a healthy lifestyle, particularly for its younger residents.

The 2007-08 academic year was recently declared the 'School Olympic Year', with a programme of activities jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) designed to nurture sports stars of the future.

Qatar's Academy for Sports Excellence has a primary focus of identifying exceptionally talented sports students from around the world and helping them develop into future champions. Its national talent identification programme also nurtures children in Qatar (between 6 and 7 years old) with sporting talent.

As well as playing host to large sporting events, Qatar offers a wide range of local sporting activities for both children and adults of all skills levels.

In Qatar, the Olympic spirit is alive and well!
