Disabled Sport
Background:
The Qatar Sports Federation for Special Needs was established to help integrate people with disabilities into society through sport and encourage them to participate in national and international championships and tournaments. It was established in July 2001 by H.E. The President of the QOC.
Mission:
The missions of the Federation are as follows:
- Assisting disabled people to discover their own skills and invest their leisure time
- Promoting social relationships between disabled people and the rest of the society
- Representing Qatar in international events
- Encouraging the spirit of cooperation amongst all members of society
- Popularising sport for disabled people
Activities:
The Federation organises sport and entertainment events in camps and through coordination with the local institutions and schools for disabled people. It also encourages participation in national and international events organised by governmental and non-governmental institutions.
The Federation sponsors people with the following disabilities:
- People with cerebral palsy or related neurological conditions
- The blind and visually impaired
- People with intellectual disabilities
- People with physical disabilities
- The deaf and those who are hard of hearing
