Qatar has a long history of hosting equestrian events on a national, regional and international scale.
The country holds a variety of national events annually, such as H.H. The Amir Cup, Horses Single Championship, Seniors Single Championship, Youth Single Championship, the Cadets Single Championship, Best Team Cup, Best Coach Cup and the Sporting Spirit Cup.
Doha also plays host to a number of international FEI sanctioned events throughout the year, including the International Horses Beauty Contest, International Equestrian Federation Jumping competitions, the FEI World Cup TM Qualifier of the Arab League - the country even held one of the Olympic qualifying events for Beijing 2008.
At the 2006 Asian Games, the Doha Racing & Equestrian Club staged the show-jumping and dressage portions of the programme, with the cross country event being held next to the Aspire Zone.
Drawing from a strong tradition of equestrianism in the region, the Qatar Equestrian team has started to achieve great success in a series of competitions held between GCC and regional competitors.
The national team took a new direction in 2002 and sought to enhance the training for each respective discipline as recognised by the FEI (International Equestrian Federation).
There are now a number of riding schools established throughout Qatar, each one targeting a different equestrian discipline. New equestrian venues are being built to host large scale equestrian events and to foster local Qatari talent.
