Powerboat racing

With the support of the Qatar Marine Sport Federation (QMSF), powerboat racing has become a new and popular sport in the country.

Powerboating in Qatar has attracted significant international attention as the sport has grown in prominence and the country has become a regular host of world class power boat competitions.

The world's best powerboat teams and drivers regularly meet in Qatar for thrilling racing events such as Class-1 Offshore World Championships, and the Formula 2000 Championship

The Qatar Team, which includes driver Mohamed Al Ali, a Qatari national, finished fifth in the 2006 team World Championship. The success of the Qatar Team and the participation of Qatari drivers have made powerboating an overwhelming success in the country.

Since the first Championship was held in Qatar in 2001, the powerboat competitions in the country have become fixtures in the sport's international calendar.

For each event, the stretch of water along the Doha Corniche is turned into an intricate racing circuit, where drivers push their boats to speeds exceeding 200kph.
